BELLVILLE — The Jared Mansfield Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, had its February meeting at the Ohio Genealogical Society on Feb. 2
Regent Joyce Vanatter led the Opening Ritual. Pat Jennings, Chaplain gave the opening prayer. Regent Joyce Vanatter led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and The American Creed. The Regent welcomed members and guests.
Angela Riley from Harmony House presented a program about the homeless shelter and talked about what Harmony House does for the 500 to 700 Richland County men, women and children that use its services each year.
Members of Jared Mansfield Chapter collected 400 items that were donated to Harmony House during the meeting.
The chapter members reported volunteer hours to National Service to America for the year 2017 totaling 5,919. This is more than doubled the hours entered for the previous year.
Chaplain Pat Jennings gave out the following certificates; Margaret Bayer Stoodt, a 30-year member; and Nancy Rummel Niswander and Jean Rummel Pohr, who have both been members for 10 years.
Pat James-Hasser, DAR Service for Veterans Chair, report ted that on February 13, 2018 a “Salute to the Military” Carnival will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mansfield VA Outpatient Clinic. Several members of the local chapter will be helping at this event and more members are welcome to attend.
The chapter gave a donation toward the Catalyst for Living Telethon for Richland County, which was Feb 3.
Members brought new and old family heirlooms to the meeting and they shared many interesting and funny family stories and items.
The Hostess Committee was recognized and thanked. Announcements were made and the meeting was adjourned.
The next DAR meeting will be March 2, at 1 p.m. at the Ohio Genealogical Society. The guest speaker will be Scott Schaut from the Mansfield Memorial Museum. He will speaking about ‘Pioneer Women of Richland County.”
