Colts forced to settle for second place in MOAC league race
BELLVILLE — Ontario outscored Clear Fork 23-7 Tuesday night in the fourth quarter to rally past Clear Fork High School 70-60 in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference basketball win.
The loss gives Pleasant the outright MOAC championship.
Clear Fork, which falls to 17-5 overall and 12-2 in the conference, finished second in the standings. Pleasant finished the conference race at 13-1. The Spartans are 18-4 overall. Ontario finished third in the league standings at 13-8 and 10-4.
Clear Fork jumped out to a big lead early and led by 15 points in the second quarter. But Ontario kept cutting into the lead and trailed by just 6 (53-47) starting the fourth quarter.
Tight defense by the Warriors and cold-shooting by Clear Fork doomed the Colts in their Senior Night home finale.
Chance Barnett led the Colts with 15 points. Brennan South and Brady Tedrow each scored 12.
Clear Fork and Ontario split their games this year but could meet again in the district tournament.
The Colts drew a first-round tournament bye and don’t play again until March 2, when they’ll take on the winner of a game next week between Mansfield Senior and Port Clinton.
