The Clear Fork Lady Colts soccer team is this year’s Ohio Cardinal Conference Champions, as the team pulled off a stunning shootout victory over Madison on Thursday night in the OCC tournament championship game.
The 4-3 victory sealed an unbeaten conference season for the Colts, as the team ran through OCC play with an unblemished 9-0 record.
The Colts’ improbable victory Thursday night came after regulation, as the game was knotted up at 3-3 on a last second goal from freshman Kaylin Helinski.
Helenski’s equalizer forced the two teams into a 15-minute sudden death overtime. However, neither team scored during overtime play and the match continued in a shootout format.
Following, a tie at the end of the first shootout, the Lady Colts found themselves in the midst of a sudden victory penalty kick contest.
Madison failed to capitalize on their attempt on goal, sending freshman MacKenzie Thorne to the line with a chance to win the game. She netted her kick on goal and propelled the Lady Colts to the conference tournament victory.
Also scoring in the contest for Clear Fork, was senior Taylor Cook and sophomore Aly Wend.
The victory moves the Colts to 13-2 on the season.
