Gene Schonauer is turning 90.
His family is holding an open house for him at New Life Church 195 West Durbin Circle in Bellville on Oct. 25 from 1-3 p.m.
Schonauer is a lifelong area resident.He was a member of the 1943 class of Bellville High School but left school to join the Navy during WWII.
He served three years in the Navy at various Naval Air Stations all around the United States including (but not limited to) Texas, California and Hawaii. That is where his love of flying blossomed. After his honorable discharge from the service, he got his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying small, two-seater aircraft as a hobby for many years.
Gene worked as a self-employed mason contractor in Richland and surrounding counties for over 50 years. He contributed to the construction of countless homes and businesses in the area. Gene was a major contributor of labor and materials to the Clear Fork field house and other school projects. He is a proud backer of Clear Fork Colts athletic teams, especially football, he rarely misses a game.
Gene is father to 5 children: Kelly (Chris) Shinabarker of Mansfield, Karen Bouvier of Florida, Kim (Robbie) Hansen of Columbus, Kyle (Joy) Schonauer of Lexington and Kevin Schonauer (deceased). He is Grandfather to Ellie and CJ Shinabarker, Tiffany (Alan) Saele, Joe (Jamie) Hansen, Mandy Schonauer, Lindsey (James) Howald and Eric, Steven, Bayley and Collin Schonauer. He is Great-Grandfather to Joey Hansen, Kate & Gino Saele, Ashton Schonauer, Cameron Bulakovsi and Peyton Howald.
The community is invited to attend the open house. No gifts, just your presence is requested.
