Police Calls


Aug. 7

Bellville Johnsville Road – While on routine patrol, the officer noticed a vehicle with one operational brake light. As the officer made contact with the driver, a 26 yearold Mt. Vernon resident, the officer was able to detect an odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from the vehicle. On the back floorboard, in plain sight, the officer saw a half empty liquor bottle. The driver was asked to participate in a field sobriety test. The driver was determined to not be impaired but was cited for driving under suspension, having one operational brake light and a summons for having an open container in the motor vehicle.

Aug. 8

Bellville North Road – a 23 year-old Bellville resident was stopped for a loud exhaust. The officer determined while speaking with the driver that she only had a permit but was on her way to the hospital for non-life threatening reasons. She denied EMS assistance and went back home to get someone to take her. She was issued a citation for no operator’s license and loud exhaust.

Aug. 10

State Route 97 East – While patrolling State Route 97 East, the officer witnessed a vehicle that did not stop for a stop sign, was weaving within their lane and speeding. During the stop, the officer detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and the 26 year-old Akron man was issued a citation for OVI, speed and stop sign and a summons for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bellville Police Department – A Bellville resident came on station stating he purchased a cell phone from a lady through Facebook out of Canton. He stated the phone began to have problems and wouldn’t work correctly. He called the carrier and was told that the phone was reported stolen and that is why it isn’t working. He brought the phone to the department and turned it over. Investigation pending.

State Route 97 and Spayde Road – Officer initiated a traffic stop for vehicle that was speeding. During the stop it was discovered that the license plates had been listed in the system as having been confiscated, per the Registrar. The officer followed the driver of the vehicle back to the residence where it was parked and the license plates were confiscated.

Aug. 11

State Route 97 East – Officer initiated a traffic stop for a subject that did not stop at a stop sign. During the stop, the officer detected an odor of marijuana. Both occupants, from the Cleveland area, denied smoking or possessing marijuana. Upon search of the vehicle, a mason jar containing remnants of marijuana was found, along with a kit to smoke Dabs, an illegal THC substance. The driver was cited for the stop sign violation and issued a summons for drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. The passenger was issued a summons for drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

August 12

State Route 13 13 – While on patrol, the officer observed a vehicle speeding and crossing the center line and fog line several times. The officer initiated a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, a 25 year-old Columbus man, the officer noticed his eyes were red and glassy and he could smell an alcoholic beverage as they spoke. The man stated he had been drinking earlier that afternoon but had not been drinking for the last hour or so. After some field tests and a breathalyzer test, the driver was cited for OVI, speed and marked lanes.
