Outreach center receives award

BELLVILLE — The Bellville Neighborhood Outreach Center (BNOC) has received an award from the Greater Cleveland Food Bank for being an outstanding food bank member.

Carol Hoeflich and Matt Merendino received the award at an event in Cleveland on Aug. 11. A program citing the group’s honor was aired on PBS.

Hoeflich said she thinks groups are judged by what they provide to area residents, including the number of people served and the amount of food distributed. She said 185 people receive help at the center. The operation in which BNOC gives out produce is a separate operation.

Information BNOC hands out says 120,471 pounds of food was handed out. Meals provided totalled 100,393.

The awards were handed out at a banquet at the Intercontinental Hotel in Cleveland.
