Season ends for Colts at district wrestling tournament


TOLEDO — Clear Fork’s remaining qualifying wrestlers saw their seasons end at the Division III district tournament at Waite High School.

Rick Thomas, John Witschi and Trey Back advanced to Toledo with a state tournament berth on the line.

Thomas was a sectional champion at 170 pounds. In Toledo, Thomas beat Blake Hohler of Edgerton in his first match by technical fall, 17-2, pitting him against Noah Baker of Elmwood. In that match, Baker won 5-4, putting Thomas in the consolation bracket where he matched up with John Mason of Milan Edison. Thomas won with a pin at 2:54. Then Thomas faced Xavier Beach of Genoa, where he dropped a 1-0 decision, knocking him out of the tournament.

At 160 pounds, John Witschi, who was third in the sectional tournament, lost his opening match at Waite High School to Parker Brown of Mohawk, 5-0. In the first round in the consolation bracket, Witschi was knocked out of the tournament after falling to J.D. Osborn of Delta, 5-2.

Trey Back also finished third at the sectional tournament, at 120 pounds. In Toledo, he dropped a 6-2 decision to Caden Gurney of Mohawk in his first match, and then was pinned at 2:00 by David Garcia of Gibsonburg, which knocked him out of the tournament.
