Avita Health System is looking into the possibility of expanding into Bellville, according to an official from the hospital.

The plans are preliminary and no final decision has been made and no contract has been signed, said Mari Swearingen, vice-president of business development.

Asked whether the company was interested in a specific location in the village, Swearingen said she could not confirm a location but added that Avita is looking into more than one possible location for a facility.

“We are always looking at possibilities and examining where the health need is,” Swearingen said, adding that the company is exploring other cities besides Bellville. “We do feel that there is a potential patient need in the Bellville area.”

Avita offers specialized health care, she said, depending on the needs of the local community.

“Our goal is to bring health care to the patient so they don’t have to travel to places like Cleveland or Cincinnati,” Swearingen said.

Avita is headquartered in Galion and has a total of 29 medical facilities including three in Bucyrus. Currently, an Avita medical facility is under construction Ontario and will be completed early next year.
