Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first person to die there.
“The Martian” written by Andy Weir will be featured at the Adult Book Discussion on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 7 p.m., at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry Street.
After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate, Watney finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive. He quickly realizes that even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills, and sheer will to live, he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next while waiting to be rescued.
Matt Price will lead the discussion on this book which promises to satisfy science fiction and general fiction fans alike.
