‘First Thursdays’ comes to a close

The inaugural First Thursday effort came to a close last night, as Bellville residents filled downtown streets to visit businesses that extended their hours until 7 p.m.

Throughout the duration of the summer, First Thursday attendance steadily increased from the initial June 4 event stated Clear Fork Valley Chamber of Commerece volunteer Juli Baker.

The chamber along with the Bellville Revitalization Group were responsible for holding the events in June, July and August. In addition to the extended downtown business hours, each First Thursday concluded with a concert in the Bandstand. Last night, atendees heard the sounds of the AMF Jazz Band.

“The Chamber has been sponsoring summer concerts for several years,” said Baker. “Adding Thursday concerts this year has developed some hopefully loyal followers.”

As for next year, Baker hopes the summer series will return with some added force.

“We hope to work more closely with the downtown businesses next year to better promote the events,” she said. “More merchant participation will increase interest, and in turn, everyone will benefit.”
