Giant pumpkin contest rules ready for street fair participants


CLEAR FORK VALLEY — Sponsors of the 2018 Bellville Street Fair Pumpkin Growing Competition is releasing information so that participants can be ready to plant their seeds.

The competition, which awards prizes running from $50 up to $250, is open to all residents of Richland County. The pumpkin must be grown in Richland County.

There will be a senior and junior division for participants. The junior division will be for children enrolled in grades K-12 at the time the pumpkin is entered for competition. All others will be entered in the senior division.

All entries must comply with the Bellville Street Fair agricultural entry requirements. Please see bellvillestreetfair.org for more details.

The awards will be: Senior Contest for Heaviest Pumpkin, first place $250; second place, $150, third place, $100.

Awards in the Junior Contest for Heaviest Pumpkin will be $250 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place.

In the Closest To Weight But Not Over Contest (Junior and Senior entries judged together), the awards will be $50 for 100 pounds; $50 for 200 pounds; $50 for 300 pounds.

Seeds will be available mid-April at Elzy Milling and Trade and Liberty Lawn Care and Landscaping in Bellville. You may also find your own seeds online from a number of seed websites. Google “giant pumpkin seed.”
