Students compete in speech contest

CLEAR FORK VALLEY — A group of students in the first through fifth grades participated in the Lois Andrea Speech Meet May 15 at the Bellville and Butler elementary schools.

Th students learned a poem to recite and focused on speaking using appropriate rate, expression, poise, and eye contact. The three top performers and one alternate from each elementary performed their poems for a large audience of friends and family.

Overall winners were: First Grade — Emerson Gautreaux, first place; Livanna Courson, second place; and Lane Wiestling, third place. Second Grade — Malia Walker, first place; Melayna Kehl, second place; and Grady Hayden, third place. Third Grade — Adalyn Wise, first place; Layla Daugherty, second place; and Ava Roberts, third place. Fourth Grade —Ashtyn Wine, first place; Mia Wilson, second place; and Noel Cline, third place. Fifth Grade — Mason Sansom, first place; Melody Blubaugh, second place; and Hayden Wilson, third place.

The judges who volunteered their time were Mary Andrea, Jeff Price, and Nancy Truexto.
