Mid-Ohio hosts amateur event this weekend

CLEAR FORK VALLEY — The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is hosting the country’s premier amateur road racing series – the Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour (https://www.scca.com/pages/super-tour) this weekend, June 1, 2 and 3.

More than 200 Sports Car Club of America racers from around the country — including many from Central Ohio — will take to the 2.4-mile, 15-turn circuit for top-notch competition. Drivers compete across 28 different car classes in speedy machines ranging from Porsches and Corvettes to sleek open-cockpit racecars.

Admission is only $10 for spectators who want to watch all the action in person. On-track activities begin at 8 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Saturday racing goes from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and 8:40 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour consists of 10 race weekends at premier tracks across the United States, including venues such as Sebring International Raceway, Circuit of the Americas, Watkins Glen and Road America. Each event includes two races for each car class for a total of 20 Hoosier Super Tour races this year. Competitors earn points toward the Hoosier Super Tour Nationwide Points Championship, and the series serves as a gateway to the SCCA National Championship Runoffs being held in 2018 at Sonoma Raceway in California.
