Flag to be raised June 7 for Fredric Holt

MANSFIELD — An American flag will be raised June 7 in front of the Richland County Courthouse to honor deceased Richland County United States Marine Corps veteran Fredric Eugene Holt.

Bruce Phipps, Commander of the Richland County Joint Veterans Counsel, said the flag will be raised at 6:00 p.m.

Holt was born March 19, 1937 in Lewis County, Ky., the son of William and Myrtle (Hardymon) Holt. At the age of 17 he enlisted and then served in the U.S. Marine Corps from Nov. 8, 1954 to Nov. 7, 1957. He received the rank of Sergeant (E4) and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.

Holt retired from Crane Plumbing in 1999 after 39 1/2 years. He spent half of his time in production and the other half as a production supervisor. After retirement, he worked part time at Mifflin Care.

He passed away Dec. 9, 2014 and is buried in Windsor Cemetery.

The Honored Veteran’s Flag will be flown for 21 days at the Richland County Administration Building. Then the veteran’s name will be engraved on a brass name plate and added to a plaque listing those veterans honored in the same manner. That plaque is already displayed on the wall in the foyer of the Richland County Administration Building.

The Joint Veterans Council of Richland County operates the flag program.
