Veterans honored for Memorial Day

CLEAR FORK VALLEY — The Jared Mansfield chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) placed flags on veterans’ graves and held a short service for four Richland County Revolutionary War soldiers buried at the Mansfield Cemetery on Memorial Day weekend.

The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children.

Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible to join. We have answers to your questions about becoming a member of this historic organization. Contact the chapter Regent at 941-224-4888 or the chapter Registrar at 419-683-3667
