Lewis pleads not guilty, police look for accomplice

Christoper D. Lewis

A 30-year-old Butler man has pleaded not guilty to one count of aggravated burglary in connection with a Bellville home invasion.

Bond was set at $100,000 for Christopher D. Lewis who entered the not guilty plea on June 19 in Mansfield Municipal Court after being arrested last week.

Lewis is accused of stealing more than a dozen guns, including a Baretta 12-gauge shotgun and a German Mauser, two televisions and ammunition from a residence in the 1400 block of Rinehart Road on April 29.

Lewis and at least one accomplice are accused of assaulting the resident at the home. Authorities are following up on leads to locate other suspects.

Richland County Sheriff’s Detectives with the assistance of the Richland County Division of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force searched the residence where Lewis was arrested and found drug abuse instruments along with the stolen guns.

After the April 29 incident, the victim said he didn’t get a good look at the two men although they seemed fairly young. It was 5:15 a.m. and dark outside when the accused came to his house, assaulted him, bound him and robbed him of several firearms, ammunition and two TVs.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Lewis on Wednesday but his case could be bound over to the Richland County Grand Jury since he is charged with a first-degree felony.
