BELLVILLE —As construction of the new elementary school building in this community continues, area residents —and some far beyond the village corporation limits —are preparing to say goodbye to an old friend, one that has served generations of Bellville-area families.
The Bellville PTO others are making final plans for a formal “Bellville School Open House and Farewell.”
“As you know our new building is under construction and is scheduled to be completed in December. Some time after that, the existing structure on School Street will be demolished,” said Kelly Shinabarker, one of the organizers of open house and farewell.
The celebration of the old school will give area residents — young and old — a chance to reminisce with one another, share memories of the old school and say goodbye to an old friend.
The Clear Fork Village schools administration, teachers and PTO are inviting the community to tour the school before its demolition.
The Open House is Saturday, Sept. 15, from 2-4 p.m. During the program, members of the Bellville-Jefferson Township Historical Society — along with current and past staff — of the school will be on hand to answer questions.
Light refreshments will be offered.
Unfortunately, there are very few parking places near the school. Those attending the program should plan to park as they would for the Bellville Street Fair, and then walk over to the school to say goodbye and share some memories … and perhaps a tear or too.
There is no charge to attend the program and there will be no formal tours of the school.
The PTO is sponsoring a 50/50 raffle.
“We hope the community will enjoy visiting our school and reminiscing with former classmates and other villagers during our Open House,” Shinabarker said.
