The Impact Worship Center youth group aims to help area middle and high school students to grow in their faith, as well as build thier church community.
“One of the things my wife and I emphasize with our group of teens is that this is a safe environment, and we expect the teens to respect that desire of ours,” said Impact Pastor Matt Liddick. “We encourage the teens to “speak life” or offer support and encouragement to each other instead of the usual cutting jokes and opportunities to exclude. This carries over to how the teens relate to each other in school. They don’t have to be best friends, but they are expected to hold each other accountable and look out for each other at school so that no one feels alone.”
Additionally, Impact’s youth group stresses community service both within the church and the surrounding area.
“This past year, there have been more opportunities than I can count that the youth group has be able to get to serve in the church, and in the community,” said Liddick. “Church cleanup days, putting together care packages for college students from our church, street garbage cleanup in Bellville just to name a few.”
The group also hosts a variety of fun activities for participants. Throughout the year they hold lock-ins, retreats, day and concert trips, as well as camping expeditions.
“Through all of these experiences, we are challenging each teenager to make their faith “their own” instead of relying on the faith of their parents,” said Liddick. “We ask hard questions, and don’t always give the answers right away. But above all, this is a group that is welcoming and safe for anyone to join.”
The group meets every Sunday from 6-7:30 p.m. to participate in games, food, music and Bible lessons. Impact is located at 160 Woodruff Road in Mansfield.
