BELLVILLE — The Jared Mansfield Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution met recently at The Ohio Genealogical Society Library for their first meeting of the fall season. Regent Joyce Vanatter opened the meeting with the Opening Ritual, the Pledge of Allegiance and The American’s Creed. She then welcomed members and guests.
During the business meeting, Vanatter gave a report from the Fall Fun Fair held in Columbus on Aug 25. The chapter received the 2017 Chapter Achievement Award for Level I. The chapter earned a first-place tie for our Chapter Newsletter in the Easter Central Division and a second for Print Coverage in the East Central Division in the Public Relations and Media Category. There also was a third-place tie for the Chapter Newsletter at the Ohio National level. Laverne Piatt received a certificate for Extraordinary Service Lineage Research Lookup Board and one for Excellence in Online Research Assistance Social Media. Joyce Vanatter receive a certificate for Outstanding as a Supporting Documentation Volunteer in the DAR Genealogy Preservation.
Joan Wyatt, Constitution Chair, announced a Proclamations from Bellville Mayor Teri Brenkus and Mayor Tim Theaker of Mansfield. A Proclamation was presented to Vanatter during the meeting from the Ohio Genealogical Society by past president, Sunda Peters. There are displays for Constitution Week in the Bellville Library, the Mansfield Library and the Ohio Genealogical Society
Linda Collins was welcomed as our newest member. She has established a new patriot.
Vanatter presented the Wreaths Across America Program. To honor our veterans, for the second year our chapter will be sponsoring wreaths and placing wreaths at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on National Remembrance Day, Dec. 15. Each wreath is $15 and the deadline for ordering is Dec 3.
Vanatter also presented an entertaining DAR Trivia quiz and power point program, “Everything You Wanted to Know about DAR But Were Afraid to Ask”. Then the Regent presented a power point program about the official DAR pins from Hamilton, the prices, pin placement and what certain pins stand for.

The next DAR meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 5 at OGS, Ohio Genealogy Society, 611 State Rt. 97 W., Bellville. Our program will be ‘Richland County 100 Years Ago” by Scott Schaut, director of the Mansfield Memorial Museum.
