MANSFIELD — A Richland County jail inmate was found unresponsive on Saturday morning at approximately 11 inside the Richland County jail.
An inmate notified corrections staff that something was wrong with the inmate. Correctional and Medical Staff administered medical care immediately as well as notifying Mansfield Fire Department, who responded within minutes.
The inmate was transported to OhioHealth where he was later pronounced dead. The Richland County Coroner’s Office was notified and an autopsy will be conducted.
At this time it’s unknown what the cause of death is and the sheriff’s office will not speculate.
The inmate was incarcerated in the Richland County Jail on Aug. 27 on a felony warrant for a probation officer out of Richland County Common Pleas Court.
The Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit is conducting the investigation into the inmate’s death.
