BELLVILLE — Central Park in Bellville was home to local artists displaying and selling handmade crafts last weekend.
Rings and bracelets made from silver spoons, handmade soaps and lotions made from goats’ milk, and acrylic paintings on canvas were available at the Art in the Park event Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Vendors participated in the same event last weekend, said coordinator Vickie Balliett.
The idea was that the event would provide local artists with a reasonably priced venue to conduct their sales, Balliett said.
Each vendor paid $20 for a space. The proceeds from vendor rentals will be returned to the village of Bellville to help pay for new windows necessary in village hall.
The works in the park had to be “genuine art” and not come from a retail location, Balliett said.
Students in the Clear Fork chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) displayed their soaps. There were also hand-made journals and yard art, said Balliett.
A group of about a dozen vendors participated the first weekend, she said.
Next year there will probably be a similar event, Balliett said.
The event is important because it brings people to downtown Bellville and allows them to visit local businesses. There were no food vendors at the Art in the Park event, said Balliett.
She said the Wishmaker House provided coffee for vendors during the events.
Pricing on all items shown was up to the individual vendor, Balliett said. Items were “reasonably priced,” she said.
Balliet said she wanted to thank the Merchants Coop group which encouraged the event, and Michael and Christie Cecil, with that group.
