Shoe boxes for donations in Butler and Bellville
People are encouraged to give their used shoes to people organizing a drive set up to help people in Malawi.
The shoe boxes will be at the Butler and Bellville branches of the Richland County Public Library and at Stoodt’s in Bellville.
The project is put on by the First English Lutheran Church of Mansfield.
The shoe drive runs from Oct. 1 through the 31st.
Butler Apple Fest
There will be an apple fest in October in Butler, where people will be celebrating the renowned edible with a parade.
The Butler Merchants Association is sponsoring the event, which will have a parade Oct. 15. People are encouraged to enter a float, a vehicle or some other type of display for the parade. People may send information to sdmarth91825@gmail.com.
The Clear Fork Valley Chamber of Commerce heard from a candidate who is running for re-election as Richland County Commissioner at its meeting last week.

Session on Medicare insurance
People in the area are invited to an information session on Medicare insurance Oct. 6 at the Bellville branch of the Richland County Public Library.
The session will start at 10 a.m. It will offer information on what type of plans are available and enrollment periods. The session is offered by Parr Insurance Agency, Inc.
Blood drive Oct. 18
at St. Paul Lutheran
Church
There will be a blood drive Oct. 18 at St. Paul Lutheran Church from noon until 6 p.m.

Fall hike for health Oct. 15
Richland County Public Health’s annual “fall hike for health” will be Oct. 15 at Malabar Farm State Park and the Gorman Nature Center in Mansfield.
Hikes through the woods will run from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The hikes are self-guided and suggested start times are by noon. The hikes last a half hour to one hour, sponsors said. Adults may accompany children. Dogs are permitted but must be on a leash.
Hikers are to check in prior to their hike at the lower Pugh Cabin at Malabar Farm and the main building at Gorman Nature Center. Maps of the walking trails will be provided, and there will be food and beverages at both locations before and after the hikes.
There will be another “walk for health” in February and people can sign up for that at the October event.

Classes offered by Jefferson Township
Bellville Fire Department
A class on adult, child, infant and community CPR will be offered Oct. 11 at 470 Main St. The class will begin at 6 p.m. People in the class will learn how to use an AED.
A class of first aid will be offered Oct. 17 at 6 p.m.
On Oct. 26 there will be a healthcare provider refresher course. The cost for all classes will be $25.

Web source for deaf voters
People who are deaf are being offered a new we source to get help in getting answers about voting.
The Ohio American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) wants people to know they can go to a site at http://www.acluohio/deaf-voting-rights. The site will provide information to people about registration, the appropriate types of identification and where and how to cast a ballot in November’s general election.
Thre are also videos on the web page which people can use. They are captioned and use a deaf speaker using ASL.
