Speedway State Route 97 West – Police stopped a vehicle in the parking lot of Speedway due to suspicious activity. Upon contact with the driver, a 20 year-old Cincinnati male, the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the vehicle. The driver was charged with open container.
State Route 97 West – Police stopped a vehicle for passing another motorist in an unsafe location. The driver, a 19 year-old Bellville male, was found to have a suspended driver’s license. He was cited for driving under suspension and was released once a valid driver was able to return to said location and take possession of the vehicle.
April 1
Alexander Road – Police initiated a car stop for a vehicle that was not displaying a county sticker but did have an expired validation sticker. The driver, a 21 year-old Lexington male, politely and respectfully explained that he had purchased the vehicle a few days prior. Said male was cited for fictitious plates.
April 2
Traxler and Main Street – Bellville Police assisted an officer from the Butler Police Department on a car stop without incident.
April 3
Main Street – Police responded to a call from a Main Street residence for a possible breaking and entering. Upon arrival the 44 year-old victim advised that someone attempted to break into her home. The suspect did not gain entry and victim was advised. Report was taken and extra patrols were requested.
April 4
Quality Inn State Route 97 East – Police initiated contact with a subject in the parking lot of the Quality Inn. Upon contact, it was learned that the driver, a 28 year-old Mansfield male, had a suspended driver’s license. Subject was issued a citation for driving under suspension.
April 5
State Route 97 and Alexander Road – A driver from Ontario, a front seat passenger, from Mansfield, and a backseat passenger, from Bellville, were stopped for a minor traffic violation after the officer observed what seemed like suspicious activity just minutes before. After some prompting for a name from the back seat passenger, it was ascertained that he had a warrant out of Lexington. Lexington Police were on scene to assist and transported the 23 year-old Bellville male to Lexington. Ontario driver was issued a warning for the marked lanes violation that was observed by the Bellville police officer.
Huron Street – Police went to Huron Street for a domestic report. While interviewing the victim, it was determined that said offense occurred over the weekend. Victim did not present with any visible marks. Victim was advised that a report would be taken and further steps would be required on her part in order to have charges filed with the Law Director’s office. Advice was given to victim regarding shelters for the safety of her and her family.
Flowers Road – Police were asked to call the victim at the Flowers Road address for a domestic dispute that had occurred the night before. When making contact with the victim of said dispute, she informed the officer that she wanted to have the report on file due to having small children in the home. It was advised that the suspect did not cause physical harm to anyone in the home during the dispute. Report was taken and advice was given to the Victim.
April 6
Main Street and Bellville North Road – Police initiated a traffic stop for failure to display front license plate, an improper right turn, crossing over the fog line (the white line on pavement) and partially crossing into the left lane. Officer detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, open containers of alcohol were found. A 19 year-old male of Mansfield was cited for open container, offenses involving an underage person and improper turn at an intersection. A 19 year-old male of Bellville was cited for open container and offenses involving an underage person.
April 8
Main Street – Officer initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle with only one working headlight. Upon approach of the vehicle, a heavy odor of cologne was observed. The 20 year-old Mansfield male admitted to having marijuana in his vehicle. Subject was cited for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and for required headlights.
April 10
Bellville North Road – Officer observed a vehicle with a loud exhaust. Prior to initiating the traffic stop, the officer also observed this vehicle make a turn without using their turn signals. The officer then initiated the traffic stop and noticed suspicious activity taking place inside the vehicle. Upon approach of the vehicle, the officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana emitting from inside it. An 18 year-old male of Bellville was cited for contributing to the unruliness/delinquency of a child, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to use a turn signal. Both juveniles involved were issued summonses for being out past curfew.
