Drowning ruled accidental

BUTLER — The drowning of a ten year old girl outside the village last Monday has been ruled accidental, the Richland County Coroner’s office has ruled.

Kassidy Crandall was playing with her brother and neighbor children around a pond on property at the corner of Gatton Rocks and Cutnaw roads.

Tom Stortz, investigator with the Coroner’s Office, said the incident was what people had assumed, an accident.

The pond is on private property near the Wade and Gatton Nurseries. Mark Wade was the person who discovered the girl in a pond, and he walked into the area to rescue her. She was transported to Mansfield Ohio Health where she was later pronounced dead.

Her address was listed as 1270 State Route 97 East, Bellville.
