July 9

Ogle Street – While on routine patrol, the Officer noticed a car that was travelling in excess of the posted speed limit. The Officer initiated a traffic stop and was immediately alerted by the heavy odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from the vehicle. The driver, a 27 year-old Parma Heights man, and passenger, a 26 year-old North Royalton man, both admitted to consuming alcohol. The driver stated it had been several hours. During the field sobriety, it was determined that he may be impaired. To be sure, they conducted a breathalyzer test and confirmed that he was too intoxicated to drive and therefore issued a citation for OVI. Both occupants were very polite and were released to a sober driver.

July 10

Police Department – Subject arrived on station requesting to speak with an Officer in regards to alleged child abuse of her child. Statement was taken from the mother and is under investigation.

July 11

Quality Inn – While patrolling the parking lot at the Quality Inn, the Officer noticed some suspicious activity taking place. Upon approach of the vehicle, he could clearly see that the vehicle was full of smoke and occupants were frantically moving around. He was able to detect a heavy odor of marijuana when the driver, a 21 year-old Alabama man, rolled the windows down. After search of the vehicle and both occupants, the driver admitted that the marijuana was his. He was then issued a summons for possession of marijuana.

First Knox National Bank – A teller from said location called the Bellville Police Department and requested an Officer to their location. The teller stated that someone had made several large deposits over the holiday weekend through their ATM. Upon balancing the ATM, they noticed that these particular deposits did not have any money or check in the envelopes. This is an ongoing investigation.

July 12

Bellville Police Department – A call came in to the front office regarding possible theft from a hospitalized woman’s bank account. This is an ongoing investigation.

July 13

State Route 97 – Officers were dispatched to State Route 97 near Fry Rd for a possible domestic incident. Upon arrival, Bellville officers assisted a Juvenile Treatment Officer in maintaining control of the seven youths that were on an outing from the Mohican Youth Academy.

July 14

State Route 97 – Officer witnessed a vehicle cross over the fog line and then the center yellow lines. This Officer initiated a traffic stop. After requesting the passenger to roll his window down, an odor of marijuana was detected. The Officer was granted permission to search the vehicle which yielded a few items containing marijuana and several drug paraphernalia items. Driver, a 22 year-old Columbus male, was issued summonses for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and a citation for marked lanes. The passenger, a 21 year-old male also from Columbus, was issued summonses for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Main Street – Officer responded to a traffic crash where Unit #1 was exiting a parking space, heading south on Main Street when Unit #1 struck Unit #2 who was traveling south on Main Street.

Howard Smith Blvd. – This department was contacted for a well check. Upon arrival, it was determined that the resident had indeed passed away. Foul play is not suspected.
