Colt wrestlers compete in district tourney

NORWALK — Clear Fork’s wrestlers ended the season Saturday at the District Division II wrestling tournament. They finished 24th in a field of more than 40 schools.

106-pound freshman JR Carman finishes the season with a 27-17 record. JR started the tournament strong with a 2:08 pin over sophomore, Isaiah Wrighten of Maumee. JR then met eventual District Runner-Up Damon Molina (sophomore) Wauseon. Carman was overpowered and lost by major decision 16-4.

He then dropped down in the consolation bracket and faced old rival (junior) Stephen Tepper of Bay Village. Having met at the JC Gorman in January, JR wrestled better this time, but came up short, losing 3-0.

113-pound sophomore Colton Campbell finishes the season with a 30-8 record. Placing 4th at the sectional Colton found himself meeting a first round Sectional Champ. sophomore, Eddie Pinc of Buckeye caught Colton by surprise on top riding with the legs and pinned Colton in 1:36. Colton moved on to the consolation round returning the favor to freshman, Gavin Yu of Maumee. Campbell matted Yu in 43 seconds with his favorite 3/4-stack pinning move.

Colton then met fellow sophomore Shane Bianchi of Parma Padua Franciscan who owned a respectable 28-17 record. Colton once again triumphed pinning Bianchi with the same stack in 2:57 seconds. He then disposed of Sam Brenneman of Bay Village by fall in 3:41. For the go-to-state match Colton faced senior, Caleb Hernandez of Napoleon. Colton battled well, but got turned by Hernandez who won by pin in 2:40.

Hernandez would eventually finished 3rd in the tournament. Colton then wrestled for a chance at 5th place meeting freshman, Cameron Deiter of Bowling Green. After exchanging some scores Colton had Deiter on the ropes throwing him to his back but could not get the pin. He would eventually lose a close 10-7 match, placing 6th.

120-pound sophomore Isaiah Thomas finishes the season with a 30-19 record. Isaiah started the tournament on fire pinning junior, Clayton Drummond of St. Mary’s Memorial in 3:18. He then met the eventual District runner-up Payton Burgdorf of Firelands. The junior won by Technical Fall 16-1. Isaiah bounced back in the consolation round defeating junior, Rush Andres of Clyde. Using his takedown skills he won 7-2.

Thomas then ran into junior Adam Samad of Fairview Park Fairview. Isaiah pushed the junior to the limit with his conditioning but lost a close 7-6 match.

145-pound sophomore Brady Au finishes the season at 19-23. Brady wound up in a similar spot much like Colton, meeting a Sectional Champ in his first match. Brady paired up with the eventual District 3rd place finisher freshman, Brody Conley of Tiffin Columbian. Brady lost by pin to Conley in 1:57. Moving on to the consolation round Brady met freshman Trevor Badiu of Medina Buckeye. Brady wrestled tough, but wound up on the losing end of a 14-3 major decision.
