Lady Colts soccer season ends in a heartbreaker

ONTARIO — Ontario rallied late against Clear Fork on Saturday to send their Division II girls district soccer championship match into overtime.

Three minutes into overtime Ontario ended the game, and the Colts’ season, when Amanda Nething sent a long pass to Rachel Miller, who found the lower left corner for the winning goal.

With the 2-1 victory, Ontario advanced to the regional semifinals Tuesday vs. Milbury Lake.

Clear Fork ends its season at 14-4-1.

It was a heart-breaking loss for the Colts, who got on the board first when Kaylin Helinski finished off a nice pass from MacKenzie Thorne at the 15 minute mark of the first half.

The was the only score in the game as the Clear Fork defense and especially keeper Kaylee Krausman — with 13 saves — kept Ontario from scoring until there was just 1:31 left in the game.

After a Clear Fork foul, Ontario’s Alexis Bise knotted the score with a direct kick to knot the score at 1-1 and send the game into overtime.
