PLYMOUTH — Four Clear Fork wrestlers qualified for this week’s Division III district wrestling tournament at Toledo Waite High School on Saturday during Division III sectional tournament action.
As a team, the Colts went 6-1 and passed Norwalk St. Paul in the finals round to claim fourth place as a team with 111.5 points.
Leading the Colts was sectional champ Rick Thomas at 170 pounds. The senior claimed his first-place medal by going 3-0 for the tournament, with all three wins by pin. In Saturday’s championship match, Thomas pinned Cade Rogers of Crestview in the finals in 1:58. After a first-round bye, Thomas’ other pins were over Jaycob Kaiser of Seneca East in 1:21 and Jacob Weilnau Sandusky St. Mary’s in 2:09.
Three Knights finished in third place, also earning spots at the Toledo Waite district this weekend: Junior John Witschi at 160 pounds, sophomore Trey Back at 120 pounds and freshman Mike Morganstern at 113 pounds.
Witschi was 4-1, with a pin of Plymouth’s Josh Dove in 4:58 in the match for third place Beck went 4-1 on for the tournament, picking up a win over Carlos Torres of Sandusky St. Mary’s Central Catholic in the third-place match. Morganstern also went 3-1. beating Eric Crabbs of St. Paul in the finals 8-7 in the match for third place.
Nick Elliot at 195 pounds and Garrett Crowner at 145 picked up fifth-place finishes for the Colts with Elliot beating Jared Lewis of Plymouth by pin in the finals and Crowner beating Westyn Adkins of Lucas by pin in the finals.
Also placing for the Colts was Blake Miller, in sixth place at 182 pounds.
