Bellville planning commission approves Wishmaker House request for new sign

BELLVILLE – The village planning commission has granted the request of The Wishmaker House to put up a new sign that will be located across Main Street from the building.

The owners of The Wishmaker House were granted a variance from village regulations governing signs located “off premises” from a structure.

Village administrator Larry Weirich said permission was granted, but stipulations were attached.

The sign will go in an area next to the True Value store on Main Street, and restrictions on dimensions and lettering were placed, he said.

The owners of The Wishmaker House recently expanded their opening days and have had several special events.

The Wishmaker House operates as an inn and restaurant. Its most recent fall event was a murder mystery evening, where guests could dine, and try to guess who the culprits were in commission of a crime.

The stipulations attached to the variance for the new sign were the following:

The sign may not be larger than 6” by 24”.

It will be located next to or attached to the existing Mohican State Park and Malabar Farm/Inn signs, which are located across State Route 97 at the Church Street intersection.

Ohio Logo will provide a design and location print to the zoning inspector before installing the sign.

The maintenance of the sign is the responsibility of owners of The Wishmaker house.

The planning commission also heard a request from Aroma Therapy for a variance for a sign located off premises, but that was denied.
