BELLVILLE — Last Saturday, the Jefferson Township Bellville Firefighters Association had its annual firefighters banquet at the fire station. The Department chaplin, Capt. Ron Roberts, started by making remarks about ”families” and how the firefighterfamily has lost two great firefighters this year , Chief Craig Roberts and fire fighter Wendell Swank.
After the prayer a wonderful evening meal was catered and served by Fast Eddies of Bellville.
After the meal, Chief Zac Carlin, Asst Chief Ronnie Roberts, Asst Chief Chris Hollar, Association President Mark Armstrong and vice presiddent John Smith presented service awards to six firefighter . Receiving a one-year award was Spencer McGinty; receiving a five-year award was Lt. Adam Dressecker a firefighter; a 15-year award went to Lt. Dustin Neer, a medic and firefighter; and 25 year-awards were presented to EMT and firefighter Bob Reed, and for his son Troy Reed, medic and irefighter; and a 50-year award to Bernard Hollar, also an EMT and firefighter.
Carlin thanked every one for all their help this past year, which brought about lots of changes. Because of the lack of volunteers it has become necessary to put on part paid Firefighters during daytime hours to make our nearly 600 runs a year.
Also this year, a 30000 gallon water tanker was placed into service to replace an 1,800 gallon tank truck,
